Ryu utilized a Metsu Shoryuken on Sagat scarring his chest and winning him the match. Sagat gave out his hand to help Ryu up when he gave into the Satsui no Hado. Ryu entered the World Warrior Tournament and won all the matches until he met Sagat the two battled until Ryu was "defeated". When their training was complete, Ryu and Ken became friendly rivals and set off on their own path. He is a man of Japanese descent, who was trained with Ken under the tutelage of Gouken. Ryu would not canonically receive his red headband until after a sparring session with Ken during this timeline. In the Street Fighter Alpha series, Ryu’s hair became a lighter shade of brown, and he retained the white headband which hearkens back to his appearance in the first Street Fighter. Ryu's first appearance in the original Street Fighter replaced the red headband with a white one and depicted him with bright red hair, gray eyes, and red slippers. All fighters can be purchased with Fight Money, individually for $5.99, or as part of the Season Pass for $29.99. They join the previous characters with Sakura, Blanka, Falke, and Cody. How close the two are will likely be shown in G’s story mode, but until then, he is a man of mystery. Getting to see his moves in action, there are some strong comparisons to the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike character Q. Wanting to unite the continents into one nation, he uses the energy of the Earth to strengthen his resolve. G is a mysterious man that claims himself to be the rightful President of the entire world. Fans were happy to see the return of one of Street Fighter’s oldest characters, as well as the mysterious fighter G. The biggest surprise however, is that both of them release today, August 6th. Not only did they deliver on that, but they also surprised fans by revealing Sagat as well.

It was hinted heavily that Capcom would finally give G, their newest fighter, his full reveal. At EVO 2018, during the Street Fighter V finals, Capcom made a big announcement.
